  • Download the appropriate installer, depending on whether you’re using a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows 10. Just click the “Download through your browser” link on the download page. Step Two: Install Windows Media Center The downloaded archive is a.7z file, so you’ll also need to download and install 7-Zip to open it.
  • Click Windows Media Player. It's the white 'Play' button on a blue-and-orange background that's at the top of the Start window. Doing so opens Windows Media Player. If you don't see Windows Media Player here, it isn't installed on your computer. WMP is installed if you clean-install Windows 10 or if you upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8.

To manually troubleshoot or upgrade your installation of the Player, try the following:

  1. Click the Start button, type features, and then select Turn Windows features on or off.

  2. Expand Media Features and see whether the Windows Media Player check box is selected. If it is, clear the check box.

  3. Click OK and then restart your PC. This will remove your current version of Windows Media Player.

  4. After your PC has restarted, repeat step 1.

  5. Expand Media Features and select the Windows Media Player check box.

  6. Click OK and then restart your PC. This will reinstall the latest version of Windows Media Player for your system (Windows Media Player 12, with a few exceptions).

Note: Windows Media Player isn't available for Windows RT 8.1.
